| Part 1: Streaming: Why it's Cool | |
|
Now with streaming technology you can listen to or view media files AS they are downloaded in Real Time. When you click a media link on a web page the contents of the media file begins to flow in a gradual and continuous stream from a remote server to your computer. Small packets of information comprising an audio or video file flow sequentially across the net to your computer only a step ahead of when you view them. It’s kind of like an on demand broadcast. Media content literally streams like little drops of water through network pipes to your computer. At times you may notice your data stream momentarily pauses or breaks up. This often results from heavy internet traffic or a poor network connection.
